Cape Charles is one of those towns most of the country thinks doesn’t really exists. The quaint charm. The smiles and hello’s that greet you on the street. The rocking chairs and ice cream cones. The colorful beach bikes ferrying laughing folks and sunkissed kids along cheery sidewalks.
And yet, here we are. For real. And in keeping with our ‘is there really a place like that’ reputation, Cape Charles is pleased to put on its 243rd classic all-American Fourth of July celebration. Make plans to join us!
Our historic hometown will be decked with red, white and blue and ready to display its patriotic spirit. There will be a 10am parade from Washington to Mason Avenues with all the trimmings: fire trucks, horses and riders, antique tractors and vehicles, motorcycles, marching musicians and more.
You’ll want to bring a chair, some sunglasses and your favorite wide-eyed kid (or grown up) to take it all in. There will be no shortage of beads, candy, and hearty handwaves.
Then, of course, there will be the Golf Carts. Seeing them parade through town bedecked for the occasion is one of our favorite parts of the celebration, and often includes several Bay Creek participants.
Once the parade is done, check out craft vendors and artisans, great ‘Fourth-of’ food, live music, and the annual fishing contest for kids known as the Guppie Challenge. It’s a day full of fun, high spirits and picture-perfect small town Americana.
But don’t stop waving that flag just yet…at dark (or officially at 9pm), the town will put on an epic fireworks display at the beach and Cape Charles Harbor. You’ll be able to see (and hear) all the ka-boom and beauty easily from Mason Avenue and the Harbor.
Cape Charles is a must-see-to-believe kind of place to experience the Fourth of July. Where else would you possibly want to be to celebrate Independence Day?
Join us in Cape Charles for this patriotic party—we’re gonna ‘July Fourth’ for all we’re worth!
