While Tintoretto was considered one of the “Big Three” 16th-century Venetian painters alongside Titian and Paolo Veronese during his lifetime and in the succeeding centuries, works by Tintoretto’s assistants and followers have frequently been misattributed to the master. Frederick Ilchman and his co-curator Robert Echols, independent scholar, are widely responsible for a new and more accurate understanding of Tintoretto’s oeuvre and chronology, first explored in the Museo del Prado’s Tintoretto exhibition in 2007. Teacher Professional Development – Techniques in Watercolor

Art and history teachers of all grade levels will discover ways to connect students to the diverse artists and techniques of American watercolorists through a guided tour of the exhibition Watercolor: An American Medium, as well as hands-on art-making and discussion activities they can use in their own classrooms. This program is free but advance registration is recommended.

Tickle My Ears

Introduce your preschooler to art with a story reading in one of our culturally-rich galleries. Then look at art and enjoy a hands-on activity. Tickle My Ears is held on the first Thursday of every month. This program is recommended for ages 2 through 5. Admission is free. This program meets at the Welcome Desk in Huber Court.

Join Carolyn Swan Needell, Ph.D., the Chrysler Museum’s Carolyn and Richard Barry Curator of Glass, for an exploration of the kilnformed artworks on view in EMERGE│EVOLVE: Rising Talents in Kilnformed Glass. The traveling exhibition presents ten award-winning and honorable mention works from a 2018 international juried competition organized by Bullseye Glass Co. as well as four former competition finalists who continue to push the boundaries of their own artistic practice. Free and open to all.

Watercolor for Kids!

Wear your play clothes to the Museum. It’s time to get messy with watercolor. Children ages 8-12 are invited to try out different watercolor techniques and discover how professional artists used watercolor to create the masterpieces on view. Participants will complete two watercolor projects during the two-hour workshop and should dress appropriately for the art projects. All supplies will be provided. $12 per participant, Museum Members save 20%.

An Evening with the Curator: Michael Endo on the Art of Kilnformed Glass

Join artist and curator Michael Endo of Bullseye Glass Co. at the Chrysler Museum as he discusses EMERGE / EVOLVE: Rising Talents in Kilnformed Glass. Learn about the process of making kiln-glass and how it differs from glassblowing. Then head over to the Perry Glass Studio to see live demonstrations presented by the Chrysler’s Studio team. Light refreshments will be served. $12 for Members, $20 for all others.
